Casting For Recovery in Argyll

On Saturday 20th April, the Argyll Fisheries Trust organised a fishing outing for lung and breast cancer patients from the Inverclyde Hospital. This was inspired by the US based charity, Casting for Recovery, which promotes fly fishing as an excellent physical exercise for patients who have undergone surgery for lung or breast cancer as well as being of much therapeutic benefit.

The Dunoon and District Angling Club generously made the Bishop's Glen Reservoir available for the day and one of their members, Paul Maclean who is a professional fly casting instructor provided tuition and gave an excellent demonstration of casting techniques. Several other members of the DDAC provided further assistance and the day was greatly enjoyed by all.

 

Andrew Barker, Chairman of the Argyll Fisheries Trust presented to the participants some mementos of the day which had kindly been provided by Purdey's of Dunoon.
With plenty of fly fishing available in Argyll (www.fishpal.com) it is hoped that, together with further similar days to be organised, fishing may provide a beneficial additional form of therapy for breast and lung cancer patients.
